I recently move to the Chicago area, and am looking for good fly fishing within about a 4-hour drive. My only chance to get away this summer is mid-August (horrible time for trout, I know.)
Can anyone recommend a good spring creek (likely to stay relatively cold) where I might have some luck?
THANKS!

hello everyone, i have recently heard that Shioc River in Bonduel has been shocked by the DNR. The results were astonishing. there are lots of brooks, few rainbows in the Shioc. The local boys fish this stream with a hook and worm, theres really no room to fly fish. But red river up in Gresham is big enough and full of trout. This is all located in Shawano county in WI.

Fished Grant County yesterday and saw one of the most prolific caddis hatches that i have ever seen. Size was #16 in mottled brown. it was so windy, however that it was difficult to get your fly in position even with a 6WT. Not too many fish rising for flies because they were getting blown off the water before the fish had a chance at them. Amont the 14 trout were a 13" brookie and a 21" rainbow.

DanJ,
When you buy a trout fishing licence you will receive a booklet of our trout streams, state-wide, your area included. I suspect you will not believe the number of streams you have access to in your area. They are everywhere. Good luck.

Northwestern Wisconsin is dry - the Brule is hot however. The Brule is fishing well and should be in fine shape for the remainder of the season.
The Namekagon is in dire need of precip. Until about mid July it was fishing very well. Beautiful river that gets a bit too warm in late summer.
Pierce and St. Croix County spring creeks are in fine shape and the Trico hatch is going full swing. Lots of terrestrial action too boot!
Send me an email if you are interested in a full report. Lots of great angling ahead...
The lakeruns are just beginning on the Lake Superior Tribs and the season runs until mid November.

I am from Utah (best trout fishing in the country). I have lived in Illinois (no trout fishing) for the past 10 years. My father just moved here from Utah as well. We are in desperate need of some information. I think this is a great site since it lists so many Midwest trout waters. The only problem is that it does not list any details about these locations. With so many listings, where do we start? Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Looking for a good place to trout fish with my son while visiting him and his family in Elgin, Illinois. Elgin is about 30 mi west of Chicago. Maybe we could drive up to Wi & say a few days to fish. Thanks
