I SEE IN THE UPPER PENENSULA OF MICHIGAN THERE IS NO MENTION OF THE EAST BRANCH OF THE STURGEN RIVER AND TROUT FISHING.COULD SOMEONE PLEASE ENLIGHTEN ME ON TROUT FISHING THE EAST BRANCH OF THE STURGEON AROUND THE HARDWOOD AND FOSTER AREA NE OF IRON MOUNTAIN

CHOCOLAY RIVER, Michigans UP.
Fished the Chocolay River last night, located in the UP near marquette. Not much action, a few really little fish hiding out in shallow and deep holes. Nice river, maybe I was too close to the road where there is likely more fishing pressure. I fished just upstream from the hwy 41 bridge.

Upper Manistee river is fishing well! The water is still up a bit from good rains, but the streamer fishing and Sulphur hatch is good. Black quills in the lower river, so look soon for drakes! www.jonsguideservice.com

Hello All,
I am leaving for Escanaba this Thursday to catch the beginning of the season. As i am fairly new to flyfishing, I wonder if anyone has any tips. At this time in the year, I would expect that hatches are out of the equation. Should I stick to nymphs and muddler minnows? What kind of trout can I expect up there?
Looks like there will be showers too - is that cause for concern?

Winter has made it to Northern Michigan. Steelhead and Trout fishing goes up and down with the weather. Look for March to pick the fishing in the area up, as good numbers of fall Steelhead have wintered in local rivers and are slowly being joined by new fish. Water temps on local streams and rivers has remained 34 -36 degrees. Look for warmer / sunny days to start to produce more Midge hatches as well as some early Stone fly hatches. Egg patterns, Hex nymphs, caddis larva, and streamers have produced best for steelhead. River levels have come back down over the last 10 days to normal levels on most streams & rivers. Look for some of the best Steelhead fishing this year to fall in the last part of March and early April.

Hello, I am interested in trout fishing this spring in Northern Michigan. I am a first timer and really have no idea where to start. Can someone suggest a area around East Jordan that would be good for a first timer to try out? Also any tips or tricks would also be helpful. thank you for your time and help.

Early June should provide you with plenty of evening fishing - it has been my experience that the trout are looking up right up until dusk that time of year.

I was on the bordman 6/17, had some good bug activity and was getting some decient fish moving on caddis, and sulphers. Then went to the upper manistee on the 18th,
Sulpher were everywere and had a few nice fish move on a drake pattern, things should be red hot up there now.
